Two
months ago, a veteran producer gave me sage advice. He said, “You've
got a good script. Now, don't rush it. I've seen too many films
ruined by directors who just wanted to get their films finished. Take your
time. Do it right. The results will be worth it.”
After three years of writing my script, I was actually able to take his words to heart. After all, I was already in this for the long term, so I slowed down. More importantly, I devised a long-term plan to both finish the film and include the performance automotive aftermarket in its journey, and hopefully, in its success. Since then, we have taken several important steps to introduce Cruise Night to the industry.
1) We attended the Performance Warehouse Association's (PWA) Annual Conference and, with the approval of the board of directors, we projected the Cruise Night movie trailer onto a 10-foot screen for approximately 700 industry people during one of the lunches. We also did a grassroots marketing campaign where we put flyers and Cruise Night stickers under the hotel room doors of all of the attendees!
2) We walked The 2008 SEMA show for three solid days handing out stickers and introducing industry luminaries to Cruise Night. Again, a big success! Great companies, like Cragar and Percy's High Performance, distributed Cruise Night stickers at their booths.
3) The past few weeks have been spent developing a line of Cruise Night car care products. The goals of the product line are (a) to tie the industry together with our “Support Your Local Speed Shop!” message, and, (b) to raise capital for the film. Printed on every Cruise Night product will be “Every dollar of profit from this product will go toward financing the feature film Cruise Night.” This powerful message will empower Cruise Night supporters to help to make the film by purchasing the products and recommending them to friends. Look for Cruise Night products in your local speed shop in the 2nd quarter of 2010.
4) The new Cruise Night Movie Vehicle Sponsorship Proposal is available now (download it below). Sponsoring one of the Cruise Night vehicles is the best way for your company to get closely involved with Cruise Night.
Cruise Night is a BIG project and we appreciate your support and enthusiasm. Keep those cards and letters coming! They help keep us going!
